Sailing Lessons & Courses
Now in its 30th year of sailing lessons, Penny's School
is world famous for her down to earth practical and
fun courses. A certificate is presented at the successful
conclusion of the course, this is accepted by charter
operators world wide.
The school has a well organised programme of practical
courses. Consisting of five three hour lessons, including
navigation. The classes are run through the summer months
of - October, November, December, January, February,
March and April. There is a full timetable, including
afternoon, evening, weekend, children's and refresher
classes.

COURSE INFORMATION
The sailing classes are all practical and you will learn
about the rigging and fittings on the yacht. How to
tie three important knots. I teach you the rules of
the sea. Tacking and maneuvering the yacht, understanding
the wind direction and sea state. We will do several
tacking lessons changing form one side of the wind to
the other. You will learn about the bouyage system and
understand reading a chart and laying courses with time
and distance.
I will teach you to pack a spinnaker, splice, do headsail
changes and reef a mainsail. I will talk to you about
anchoring and safety equipment and demonstrate Man over
board drill. After 15 hours practical with me you will
be able to crew with any body and understand what, when
and why you do things on a yacht or even sail your own
boat far more efficiently and easily. I will certify
you for your sea time and this will enable you to charter
a yacht at a later date should you choose.

Cost
NZ$650.00 including GST (tax) is the
total fee, including a comprehensive sailing book written
by Penny. A NZ$100 deposit is to be paid at time of
booking.
